Shmuel Feld

Shmuel FeldShmuel Feld founded STS LLC in August 2008 based on his 15 years in education as a mentor, teacher, administrator, program developer, and principal in private and public schools. During that span, he innovatively taught the range of K-12 and at the graduate level, including teaching classes at the University of Rhode Island and mentoring student teachers at Boston College. Shmuel uses his experience to spur his critiques and analyses of structures of institutions. His academic work at Harvard and Boston College's Lynch School help organize and inform his policy work. His recent shift to policy work in BroadBand and ARRA stimulus activity is a further evolution of understanding, reflecting, and repairing dynamic systems. Recently, Shmuel represents and counsels the Benton Foundation and devises new methods for configuring and teaching emergency response procedure and tactics in the US Public Health Service.

Harold Feld

Harold FeldHarold Feld joined STS LLC in February 2009 already established as one of the leading thinkers in the field of spectrum and internet usage. During Harold’s over ten years experience in U.S. spectrum policies, regulations, and technology trends, he has created a reputation of analytical understanding and effective advocacy. His work started as an associate at the law firm Covington and Burling in telecommunications law, internet policy, and energy law. Harold continued his career as a leader at the nonprofit firm Media Access Project where he earned a reputation as a defender of the public’s right to speak and hear information from a diversity of sources in electronic media. Currently, Harold is the Legal Advisor at Public Knowledge as well as being a partner in STS LLC. His blog [http://www.wetmachine.com/totsf/] receives over 8000 unique hits a month, and is read by staff at the FCC, FTC, reporters in the field and hill staffers. In 2007, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin praised Feld and his blog for “[doing] a lot of great work helping people understand how FCC decisions affect people and communities on the ground.” Harold has written, spoken, and taught extensively in the field including his work at Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School and Georgetown University Law School.
